Report Support & Clarification

A report is most useful when its results are understood. If a field, comment, or online record raises a question, contact IDGL with the complete report number and the point you would like clarified.

Understanding a result

Gemological wording can be precise. A range, estimate, or qualified conclusion may reflect the scope or conditions of the examination. Before shortening that wording or drawing a broader conclusion, ask what it means in the context of the report.

Provide the full document where requested so the question can be considered together with its comments and identifiers.

A possible document discrepancy

If you believe a number, image, measurement, or description has been recorded incorrectly, identify the exact field and retain the original report. If the online record differs from your document, explain both versions of the information.

Do not alter the original document to make the information match. Use the appropriate support process to establish the next step.

A stone that has changed

Recutting, repolishing, damage, or other intervention may affect how well an earlier report describes the current item. Tell IDGL what happened and when, and include any relevant work records.

Depending on the question, the item may need to be examined again. An explanation of an old report and an assessment of the stone's present condition are different requests.

Comparing more than one report

When two reports appear to differ, compare their full scope, issue dates, and item descriptions before focusing on a selected result. Different report products may not address identical questions.

Share the complete documents when requesting assistance. A new examination should not be assumed to reproduce a preferred result.

Prepare your support enquiry

Include the report number, the issue you have noticed, and what you would like to understand. For a submission still in progress, provide its reference number as well.

Contact IDGL for help reading a report, checking a record, or discussing whether further examination is appropriate.
