Submit a Diamond or Gemstone

The first step in a useful examination is choosing the right service. Before sending a diamond, gemstone, or jewelry item, contact IDGL to confirm eligibility, report scope, fees, and current delivery instructions.

Tell us about your item

Describe the material as it has been described to you. Let us know whether it is loose or mounted, its approximate size if known, and whether an earlier report is available.

Mention known treatments, repairs, recutting, or damage. If the item contains several stones, explain whether your question concerns one stone, selected components, or the entire piece.

Explain what you need to know

An enquiry about identity differs from an enquiry about diamond quality, treatment information, or a report discrepancy. A clear question helps establish the appropriate scope.

You can describe the situation in ordinary language: a purchase you are considering, an inherited stone, an unclear seller description, or an item you want to document.

Confirm the service details

Before acceptance, review the report product, the results included, and any relevant limitations. Ask for the current fee, estimated timing, and how additional work would be discussed if needed.

If you are working toward a particular date, explain it early and wait for confirmation before making arrangements that depend on completion.

Prepare your documents

Keep a copy of the item description and the agreed service information. For more than one item, use a separate identifier for each and make sure the same identifiers appear consistently across the submission documents.

Provide previous reports or relevant supporting records when requested. These documents give context to the enquiry without replacing the new examination.

Arrange delivery or handover

Use the current instructions supplied for your submission. Confirm the destination, packing requirements, handover process, and return arrangements before dispatch.

Discuss responsibility and coverage with the relevant service providers. A tracking number alone should not be assumed to establish the coverage applicable to a valuable item.

Keep your reference details

Retain the submission reference and use it when asking about progress. On completion, read the report in full and compare the returned information with your records.
